Alain Nahimana
For the second portrait in the Piece Together Project, we painted Alain Nahimana. Alain was one of the founders of the Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center, and a very prominent figure within the Portland Community. Alain unfortunately passed away earlier this year, but his work advocating for immigrants, social justice, equality and women’s rights will be remembered by our community for generations to come.
Alain’s three sons were able to join us yesterday for the painting, which made the experience that much more special. Mary-Allen Lindemann of CBD once stated “How lucky we were to have Alain in our lives. As he often said, by working together, we can make great things happen.”
Thank you so much to Coffee By Design for hosting the project and to Alain’s family for the trust and opportunity to honor him with this piece.
